Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean sea,
separated from italian peninsula by Messina canal, 3 km length and famous
for its currents and its whirls, where Ulisse faced the monstrous Scilla
and Cariddi according to Greek poet Homer, in the Odyssey.
Sicily is wet from the north by Tyrrhenian Sea, from the east by Ionio
sea and from the south by Mediterranean sea.
The archipelago of Eolie or Lipari islands is part of the Sicily. The
islands constituting the archipelago are: Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Alicudi,
Filicudi, Vulcano e Stromboli.
